A DISASTER KIT FOR YOUR CATS

A DISASTER KIT FOR YOUR CATS

With so many areas being plagued by torrential downpours, landslides, earthquakes and tornadoes, every cat owner should be prepared for the worst and keep a Disaster Kit on hand. The following items should be part of every basic kit.

Copies of all documents for each cat (i.e. licenses, vaccination records and/or medications)

One gallon of fresh water

Pet first aid spray and gauze wraps

A small bag of cat food

A strong leash and collar that won't slip over your cat's
head--preferably a harness

Spare pet name tags

a small bag of kitty litter and a litterpan

A non-spill water dish

An animal carrier (i.e. Vari Kennel)

Favorite toys and treats

Cats' Love Windows

Cats' Love Windows

Have you ever noticed how interested your cat is in everything that goes on outside? A basket that hooks to the window sill or a perch will allow your cat the perfect place to follow what goes on outside. An ideal location would be in full view of a bird feeder or tree. (We have a tree right outside our bedroom window, Gracie just loves to watch the birds) provides her with hours of entertainment.

Playful Cat

Playful Cat
  • Cats are social animals and can enjoy play with their humans. Many cats love to chase rolling objects and often will retrieve them. They love to chase the beam from a flashlight or a laser pointer. Not only can playtime be enjoyable for both pet and owner, but it is also helpful in maintaining a healthy weight for your cat.

PET CLEAN-UP

PET CLEAN-UP
  • Fur Balls - To cut down on your cat spitting up fur balls onto your floor or carpet, try feeding him/her sardines in oil once a month. They say it helps smooth the passageways, allowing the hair a speedy exit, thus preventing the fur balls from forming.

Dogs & Cats In The Same House

Dogs & Cats In The Same House

Bringing a feline into a canine household-or vice-versa-can be trying for both animals and owners, so here's a technique worth trying:

Keep your dog on a leash and give him food treats for sitting quietly as the cat walks by. This way, you're rewarding him for non-predatory behavior. Be sure to keep your cat's claws trimmed, so that if trouble does arise, it can't do much damage to your dog.
